How far did you travel to school and how did you get there?

Like I have mentioned in earlier posts, I went to a LOT of different grade schools growing up. I started at George M. Null Elementary School and went to Kindergarten, first and second grade there. We lived on Headland Street and I took the bus to school all three of those years. I went to third grade at the First United Methodist Church while Coverdell School was being built. We took the bus to Third Grade also. When Coverdell opened at the beginning of my 4th Grade year, we were only a few block away and we would walk down Concordia Hill to get to school but then we moved in the middle of my 4th grade year and I transferred to Powell Terrace. Powell Terrace was close and we would walk there too....I loved going to Powell Terrace School and I had great friends there....I went to school there for the rest of my 4th grade year and my Fifth Grade. We moved again to Madison Street and the school district would not allow me to stay at Powell Terrace and I had to transfer to Benton for my 6th grade year. I was close enough that I kept walking and riding my bike to Benton. I still lived on Madison Street when I started going to Junior High School - TL Hardin - and I walked all three years that I went to Hardin. I used to walk across Kingshighway and meet Angie Morse on Lindenwood Street and we would walk together to school. I used to meet up with Tom Clausman on Elm Street sometimes and then Kevin Plackmeyer too....but Angie and I would walk together most of the time. We lived on Madison Street until the beginning of my Junior year of high school and I got my drivers license in the middle of my Sophomore Year while we lived there. I started driving to school at the beginning of my Junior Year and drove my Mom's 1970 Orange Ford Maverick to school until I purchased my own 1972 Ford Ranchero. I loved that car and always said that I wanted something unique so that everyone would recognize me coming down the road. The Ranchero certainly met that criteria. It was a beast of a vehicle and was certainly not cool but it was all mine. My dad lent me $1,000 so that I could buy it and I paid him back $100 a month over 10 months. I used my tip money from the restaurant where I worked to pay him back, buy new tires and keep it running. That car was a lot of fun and I had great time in it. I kept that car until after I started going to college in Greenville and my parents sold it while I was at school and I bought a 1972 Gran Torino from them to replace it.
