Tell about your Mom's cooking. What was your favorite meal?

I always thought that Mom was a very good cook. I remember fried hamburgers in the skillet, eating breakfast steaks, pork chops, spaghetti, liver & onions! and my favorite was meat loaf. We used to all sit down at the kitchen table and say our blessing. We had to ask if we could get up from the table and be excused. "May I please be excused from the table?"....We would say a very Catholic dinner blessing - "Bless us, O Lord, and these, Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen." Our food was very good and I remember having a lot of food - or what seemed like a lot. We always had meats, potatoes and vegetables. They were put into bowls and served on the table. We would eat spaghetti and Mom would make garlic bread. If we were ever still hungry, we could eat a butter bread or a gravy bread. Those were used to fill us up. We drank milk with our meals and tea - sometimes. We used to have "junk suppers" and those were the nights when we would empty out the fridge and eat all of the leftovers. Extra pizza, a slice or two of meat loaf, a spoonful of spaghetti, some sausage and sauerkraut. Mom would get all of the little plastic dishes out of the fridge and sit them across the table and we would have a "free for all" for dinner. Those were great memories. I don't remember too many breakfast meals at the house. A box of cereal or a Pop Tart were pretty standard. We used to have breakfast for dinner sometimes and that was always a treat - eggs and pancakes for supper time! Lunches were mostly sandwiches and chips. Bologna, salami and braunschweiger (liver sausage) were my favorites. Mustard and lettuce. We also ate a lot of tomatoes - just cut them up and eat them off of the plate. Slice up onions were so good in the summer time. Mom also used to make a cucumber and onion salad that was amazing. Cut them up into small slices and let them sit in vinegar overnight and it was delicious. Waldorf Salad - little marshmallows and fruit? Watergate Salad was the same thing but it was green and it was a summer picnic salad.
